Paul Newman

Hey everyone, I just wanted to say something about the passing of Paul Newman. This was an incredible man. He was a man that raised more money for pediatric cancer research then he made for himself in his career. He not only set up numerous charities for pediatric cancer research, but he also set up " The Hole in the wall gang" camp in Ashford, CT. This is a camp where kids with serious or life-threatening illnesses can go and just be kids. I have no doubt that without people like Paul Newman the battle against pediatric cancer would not have come as far as it has. So if you would, when you get a minute or two, say a prayer for Paul Newman and his family. He was an incredible person, and a true testament to the goodness of man-kind. Thank you. Pat

steroids

Hi everyone!!! Well what a busy week. On Monday Em started daisy's again, and as usual she loves it. On Tuesday we went up to the hospital and Emma had her last spinal tap (YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY)!!!!!!!!!!! We also started steroids (BOOOOOOOOOOOO). As usual the steroids make her very emotional, so, when they called me to pick her up from school today I was not surprised. Her teacher said that she just started crying and they could not get her to stop. Her teacher also said that Em kept going to the bathroom and would not let anyone help her. So when I arrived she came out, collected her things, and we were off to the house. Now she feels better, and she is playing. We only have 2 more days of this round of steroids, and 2 more months of this medicine . I Will Not Miss Them When They Are Gong!!!

The Tunnel

On Friday, Emma was not feeling well so I kept her home from school. She had a low grade fever and a terrible cough (that she still has) so I thought it would be best if she stayed home and slept all day. And that she did. On Saturday I woke up with it and felt really sick. Runny nose, cough, chest hurts, ears hurt, I called the doctor yesterday. Ear infections and the beginnings of bronchitis!! So I have to stay away from my Lady. What that means is Daddy time!!! At first everything was going well as usual, but yesterday they were getting on each others nerves, and Emma got yelled at for not listening. That was when she retreated to the tunnel. What the tunnel is is a place where Dad and Mom can't get to her. Its a small space between the two couches. She goes there to get away form everything. Sometimes she goes there to read, and other times when she is angry. Last night it was because she was very angry!
Mom: Emma what is the matter?
Em: (crying) Daddy yelled at me!!!! He said that I was not listening!!
Mom: Come out here and lets talk about it with Dad.
Em: NO!!! If he comes near my tunnel I will pinch him!!!!
Dad: Emma come out!
Em: No!!! I live in here now!!Go away!!!Your to big to fit in here!!!
Mom: Emma please come out here. Do you need a tissue?
Em: Yes Mommy I do, and make him go away!
Dad: Emma how are you going to go to school if you are going to live in there? Or eat, or play, or do anything? Please come out.
She came out and kissed her Dad. I wonder where she will go when she out grows the tunnel?

Rocks for Mom

Emma woke up this morning in not so good of a mood. She didn't like her clothes, she didn't like her hair, and she didn't like her breakfast. So when she left for school, I hoped that she would come home in a better mood. She did, until she realized that she had homework. Everything started out OK, but when I asked her to write her name neatly she started to sing her nasty Christmas song:
Emma: You better watch out. You better not cry. You better not pout I'm telling you why, Santa Clause is bringing you rocks!
Mom: Emma.
Emma: He's making a list, he's checking it twice, he going to put rocks in your bed, Santa Clause is bringing you Rocks!
Mom: Emma that is enough.
Emma:Rocks, rocks, rocks, rocks, rocks, rocks, No Earrings or Necklaces just Rocks! He is bringing me a Wii. You will not play with me!
Mom: Time OUT Now!!!
Hopefully tomorrow she will be in a better mood. At least she has her rhyming down right?

Teeth Lost: 5

This weekend was pretty busy. On Saturday, we went to Stevie's first flag football game. It was really fun. Pat and I got a really big kick out of Steve because he would be inches away from grabbing the flag from the kid on the other team, who and the ball , and his friend on his team would fall, and instead of getting the flag he would stop and help his friend up. It was priceless. Emma was so excited because she had not seen Stevie in a week, and Stevie had a really tough week getting used to the second grade so they were very happy to be together. Sunday we lost another tooth!!! That makes five. So tonight the tooth fairy will come, and I hope that she leaves lots of money!!!!!

100

I just thought that you would all like to know that we have, as of today, 100 days left until the end of treatment. I hope that it goes by just as fast as the last 729. Please keep us in your prayers.

First Day: Almost a Success

Emma had a great first day of school. She told me that she made new friends, and was thrilled that she had recess. At about 8 pm when Pat was putting her to bed, the phone rang. It was Mrs. Daddona her am Kindergarten teacher. She said that Em had a great first day, but to please not pack anything to do with peanut butter because there is a child in the class with an allergy. I said to her, " but I didn't, her sandwich for lunch was pbj but her snacks were separated." We both started to laugh and realized that for lunch she probably ate all of her snacks. Oh well if that's the worst that happens, I will take it!
